PyroSim Gallery

This gallery contains examples of some of the work that our users have done with PyroSim and FDS. Descriptions are supplied by the model provider. Thank you very much to those who generously contributed to the gallery. We hope that it conveys some of the impressive capabilities of PyroSim and FDS.


Dambovita Center, Bucharest, Romania

Plaza Centers has entered into a public-private partnership agreement with the Government of Romania to develop the Dambovita Center (known as Casa Radio) (Forum with Additional Images) in Bucharest, the largest development plot available in the city centre.” [Quote from this Forum with links added by Thunderhead]

The image and models below, created by Donna and Offstream Studios, show a view of the PyroSim model at the top and two Smokeview renders of the Fire Dynamics Simulator (FDS) simulation.  With the excellent use of obstruction transparency and colors, it is easy to visualize smoke movement within the volume of the building.

Vehicle Ferry

Vehicle Ferry in PyroSim A new 362-foot passenger and vehicle ferry vessel is under development and will include capacity for up to 1500 passengers and 144 vehicles. Vehicle Ferry Cutaway in PyroSim The vessel will include two vehicle decks with accommodations ranging from small passenger cars to larger freight and large goods trucks. RJA provided fire modeling services to assess smoke production and smoke movement from various car and truck design fire scenarios as part of an assessment to review occupant egress conditions throughout the vehicle decks. The fire modeling was also used to assess the thermal impact on the deck resulting from the large design fire scenarios.

The Welcome Pavilion, Yas Island Retail, Abu Dhabi

The Welcome Pavilion, Yas Island Retail, Abu Dhabi in PyroSim The Welcome Pavilion is the main entrance to a 300,000 sq m retail mall in Abu Dhabi. Mott MacDonald provided fire modeling services for the development. The purpose of the study was to trial proposed smoke extract designs – the aim being to keep smoke above head height indefinitely, giving occupants ample time for escape.

Binyaney Ha’uma Railway Station and Tunnel

The Binyaney Ha`uma Railway Station and Tunnel in PyroSim The Binyaney Ha`uma Railway Station and Tunnel is the underground portion of a commuter subway system that will connect Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, Israel. The Binyaney Ha`uma Railway Station and Tunnel in Smokeview The tunnel is approximately 1 mile long and terminates at the passenger station which will be located approximately 200 feet below the streets of Jerusalem. RJA provided fire modeling services for the entire railway station and tunnel to assess the impact a train fire developing in either the station or tunnel on the proposed smoke control system.

International Space Station Destiny Laboratory

NASA Destiny Diagram The International Space Station Destiny Laboratory smoke detection model showing main section, endcones, and hatches enclosed within a rectilinear grid. There are six overhead supply diffusers, six deck return registers, and one deck diffuser for air ventilation. Two area smoke detectors are located in front of the forward and aft return registers.
