PyroSim Gallery

This gallery contains examples of some of the work that our users have done with PyroSim and FDS. Descriptions are supplied by the model provider.

John Brooker, NASA Glenn Research Center
International Space Station Destiny Laboratory

The International Space Station Destiny Laboratory smoke detection model showing main section, endcones, and hatches enclosed within a rectilinear grid. There are six overhead supply diffusers, six deck return registers, and one deck diffuser for air ventilation. Two area smoke detectors are located in front of the forward and aft return registers.

Alex Kline, Rolf Jensen & Associates
The Binyaney Ha`uma Railway Station and Tunnel

The Binyaney Ha`uma Railway Station and Tunnel is the underground portion of a commuter subway system that will connect Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, Israel. The tunnel is approximately 1 mile long and terminates at the passenger station which will be located approximately 200 feet below the streets of Jerusalem. RJA provided fire modeling services for the entire railway station and tunnel to assess the impact a train fire developing in either the station or tunnel on the proposed smoke control system.

Jason Pritchard, Mott MacDonald
The Welcome Pavilion, Yas Island Retail, Abu Dhabi

The Welcome Pavilion is the main entrance to a 300,000 sq m retail mall in Abu Dhabi. Mott MacDonald provided fire modeling services for the development. The purpose of the study was to trial proposed smoke extract designs - the aim being to keep smoke above head height indefinitely, giving occupants ample time for escape.

Craig Hofmeister, Rolf Jensen & Associates
Vehicle Ferry

A new 362-foot passenger and vehicle ferry vessel is under development and will include capacity for up to 1500 passengers and 144 vehicles. The vessel will include two vehicle decks with accommodations ranging from small passenger cars to larger freight and large goods trucks. RJA provided fire modeling services to assess smoke production and smoke movement from various car and truck design fire scenarios as part of an assessment to review occupant egress conditions throughout the vehicle decks. The fire modeling was also used to assess the thermal impact on the deck resulting from the large design fire scenarios.
