The training event “Best Practices for Fire Simulation: PyroSim and Pathfinder”, will be hosted in Singapore at SCDF HQ, 91 Ubi Avenue 4, by our distribution partner Building System & Diagnostics Pte Ltd (BSD). Bryan Klein from Thunderhead Engineering will be presenting the course materials.
Fire Safety is of utmost importance to all occupants of any buildings. From fire simulation to evacuation simulation, performance-based approach relies on fire engineering principle, as well as software modeling to achieve safe and efficient designs. The industry is going from prescriptive to a performance-based approach. It provides greater flexibility for the building designers to come up with more complicated designs, without compromising the desired level of fire safety.
October 19th – 20th, 2015 from 9 AM to 6 PM: 2-day PyroSim and FDS Workshop
This is a 2-day course intended for engineers with some background in Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) who want to pick up skills on performance-based simulation. There will be updates on the latest version of PyroSim as well as Fire Dynamics Simulator (FDS) 6.2. Similar to CFD, FDS solves Navier-Stokes equations but uses Large Eddy Simulation (LES) which is appropriate for low-speed, thermally-driven flow.
The objective of this interactive workshop is to expose users to the best practices for fire simulation, moving from quick analysis to detailed analysis, and gaining competitive advantage by being more productive.
October 21st – 22nd, 2015 from 9 AM to 6 PM: 2-day Pathfinder Workshop
Pathfinder is one of the approved evacuation software programs available as stated on Singapore Fire Safety Engineering Guidelines (SFSEG) 2015. It is an agent-based egress simulator that includes an integrated user interface and animated 30 results for users to evaluate evacuation models. Pathfinder has a strong focus on pedestrian evacuation scenarios, including the capability to import Fire Dynamics Simulator (FDS) slices for greater visualization of fire emergencies. There will be introduction to the new updates in the latest version of Pathfinder.
The objective of this interactive workshop is to allow users to explore the use of best practices for using Pathfinder efficiently and producing more realistic graphics than with other simulators.
October 23rd, 2015 from 9 AM to 12 PM: 1/2-day Workshop “Introductory Seminar on Performance-Based Simulation for Fire/Smoke & Public Evacuation”
Due to growing needs and demands, building designs have evolve rapidly and have become much more complicated than before. A typical mixed development in Singapore can easily comprise multiple components such as basement carpark, retail, commercial and residential spaces. Performance-Based simulation may offer more flexibility to minimize over-provision.
In Singapore, the regulatory system for Performance-Based Approach to Fire Safety Design was officially launched on July 1st, 2004. For more than a decade, performance-based design approach has been used to provide alternative solutions to satisfy fire performance regulations.
This half-day seminar provides participants with the insights to Why, When, Where and How to go for Performance-Based approach.
- Performance-based Simulation – Fire Modelling, Results and Applications with Fire Dynamics Simulator (FDS) and PyroSim
- Evacuation Modelling, Results and Applications with Pathfinder
- Case Examples with PyroSim and Pathfinder – Greater visualization of results for design and decision-making
